READING – A MOST IMPORTANT SKILL - PART 1

Reading is one of the most important skills our children have to learn: without it their education in other subjects, including maths, becomes virtually impossible. As parents we need to make sure that our children acquire the ability to read proficiently, not just for information but, hopefully for pleasure as well.

In our world of ‘techno-toys’ many children are not interested in sitting down quietly to read a book purely for enjoyment. This is a shame as reading helps them acquire the vocabulary and a feel for grammar and punctuation which will improve their own writing skills.
