Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland

Holywood is a seaside town within a few miles of Belfast, with a tradition of speciality retail, professional services, art galleries and a range of cultural activites including annual music festivals..

This is a 'Global District' for Holywood Residents, community groups and businesses to come together to promote all aspects of their town using all available media. When current, information will appear below, but all content relating to Holywood can be viewed using the "all posts" tab. Using the interactive tab will bring up any supporting interactive maps or applications that support anything your are reading or viewing.

SUPPORTING MAPS / GRAPHICS / 'APP INTERFACES' :

The supporting maps and graphics we are using are by local artist Ralph Dobson. The streetmap was commissioned in association with Bangor and Holywood Town Centre Management for a town based "pull out" map, and the Holywood Townscape was commissioned by us and carefully scoped with the artist to provide a more "virtual" as well as artistic experience of Holywood. Explicitly we wanted to exploit the potential for animation and other applications such as "roll over media".

Please do not download these graphics and use them except to link to Global District applications by us or by members. Code for embedding these is available when you log in and is distributable according to the member's terms. See also our terms of use. In this way everyone can add value.

Holywood 'Goes Global' was first set up in association with the Holywood Chamber of Commerce and was sponsored by The Holywood Exchange. Before that it was known as "holywood online". Ongoing development has been significantly sponsored by Dunlop Homes (view profile) with a view to making this an open platform for businesses in, and the community of Holywood. The most recent revamp in 2014 takes us much closer to the original goal of a universal plug in for the town using shared maps, animation and all forms of media for creative applications, each building on what has gone before.

HolywoodGoesGlobal lets you promote your news, events, products and services in Holywood, North Down, Northern Ireland.

Everything is mapped using the Global District application and internet based maps: Google Maps.  Original artwork by local artist Ralph Dobson provides a "Townscape" which can be shared, not only to support events and media on Holywood GoesGlobal, but also on members' web sites to create a vibrant community network.

All content is geocoded using the Google Map engine - that is businesses, event locations, and any media uploaded by members such as photos or video.

If you are connected with Holywood as a business, club or organisation please sign up and post your news. If you are person - sign up as a friend, and build a network of favourites ... how you benefit from Holywood GoesGlobal depends very much on who you are or what you do, but we aim to benefit everyone who participates.
