HOLYWOOD TRANSITION TOWN News item or Blog

HOLYWOOD TRANSITION WEEK 14th to 19th September 2009.

A week long series of events culminating at Holywood Old School, Church Road to see Holywood in the future.

The week long of events culminates in an invitation to participate in planning what Holywood could be like in the coming decades Saturday 19th September 2.00-5.00pm at Holywood Old School, Church Road. FREE

We hope you are already planning to come to some of the events. All but two of these events are completely FREE. They are designed to show Holywood residents some real-life examples of a world where we can use less oil and emit fewer greenhouse gases. Many involve food and gardening just because that is how Holywood Transition Town started. As we all have to eat, one of the quickest ways individuals can bring about change.

The week leading up to Saturday looks like this ....

Locally Grown

Visit the extensive organic food gardens of Camphill community and Helensbay Organic Garden. Learn just how much food we can produce in a way that uses no oil based fertilizers or pesticides. Start Camphill car park at Monday 14th at 5.30 pm and lasting approx, 2 hours. No cost.

Local Eating

The famous Baytree is cooking up a meal using locally sourced ingredients. The meal will cost £15 excluding drinks. John McCormick will round off the evening with a "Taste of Holywood" talk and slide show of successful private Holywood food gardens. Wednesday 16th at 7.00 pm. Reservation essential. Book directly with Baytree on 028 9042 1419.

Local Gardenshare

See how a pensioner shares his large, otherwise unmanageable garden with a large family to grow lots of veg. The garden is productive, the pensioner has regular company and a fresh vegetable supply. Come and learn more about the practicalities. Meet Thursday 17th at 5.30 pm Cultra Inn car park. Visit lasts one hour. No cost.

Local Film Show

A glass of wine and time to discuss the film will follow this rare local showing of "the Age of Stupid" staring Pete Postlethwaite. He looks back as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055 watching archive footage of 2008 and asking "Why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance" Thursday 17th at 7.45 in the Holywood Old School, Church Road. Cost £3.00

Local School Garden

See how Holywood Transition Town helped a local school establish a fruit, veg and flower garden and have a cup of tea. Friday 18th at 3.15 for around an hour. No cost. You need to RSVP as we would like to know how much homemade cake to bring! Call me on 077 1058 5876 when I can also tell you which Holywood school it is. You can also email.

IF YOU ARE ALREADY PLANNING TO COME AND HAVE ALREADY ANSWERED, DON'T WORRY WE HAVE A RECORD OF YOUR REPLY.
